Africa-Press – Eswatini. In a groundbreaking step toward strengthening Eswatini renewable energy sector, the University of Eswatini (UNESWA) and Eswatini Energy Regulatory Authority (ESERA) marked a milestone with the graduation of the first-ever Capacity Building Program in Minigrids Development Course.
The graduation ceremony took place at SibaneSami Hotel at Ezulwini.
The course was delivered under the Africa Minigrids Program (AMP), a multi-country initiative funded by the Global Environment Facility and implemented by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). In Eswatini, the program is spearheaded by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Energy, with ESERA serving as the national implementing partner.
A total of 30 participants were selected from over 1 200 applicants to receive in-depth training in minigrid design, solar PV systems, feasibility studies, business models, regulatory frameworks, and tariff structures.
The group included CEOs, entrepreneurs, professionals, and civil servants, showcasing a strong national interest in renewable energy development.
Vice Chancellor of the University of Eswatini, Professor Justice Thwala, expressed appreciation for the collaboration. “We thank ESERA for believing in our ability to deliver professional development programs of this caliber,” he said, urging graduates to contribute meaningfully to expanding energy access in the country.
Representing ESERA, General Manager Finance and Administration, Makhosazana Dlamini, commended the graduates for their dedication. “You are entering a sector that is dynamic, impactful, and full of opportunity. We are proud of this partnership and excited about the future,” she said.
The Africa Minigrids Program aims to accelerate electricity access in rural and underserved areas using renewable energy-powered minigrids, paving the way for sustainable energy solutions and economic growth in Eswatini.
