Africa-Press – Eswatini. Eswatini has firmly reiterated its longstanding national principle of “Having No Enemy – Anginasitsa” in response to concerns raised by the Republic of South Africa over the presence of five third-country nationals who were deported from the United States.
The five individuals, who were convicted of criminal offenses in the U.S., were deported by the Trump administration and had transited through Eswatini as part of their repatriation process. Their arrival prompted questions from South African authorities, who raised concerns about regional security.
In a press release issued today, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation clarified Eswatini’s role and outlined the measures taken to ensure national safety while upholding its humanitarian responsibilities.
“Guided by Eswatini’s foreign policy principle of ‘Having No Enemy – Anginasitsa,’ our nation remains committed to fostering peace, goodwill, and cooperation globally,” the Ministry stated.
“This philosophy underpins our longstanding role as a sanctuary for displaced persons and a trusted partner in international affairs.”
The Ministry stressed that the individuals are not a threat to Eswatini’s public safety, as they are being securely held in the country’s most protected correctional facilities under tight supervision.
“The Kingdom clarifies that the individuals were deported from the United States due to standard criminal offenses. They are not regarded as high-risk criminals within our jurisdiction and are currently housed under strict security,” the statement read.
The Ministry added that Eswatini is working closely with international organizations and the governments of the inmates’ countries of origin to ensure their safe, dignified, and humane reintegration.
“Through His Majesty’s Correctional Services, we are implementing internationally recognized rehabilitation and reintegration programs. These efforts are being supported by global partners specializing in migrant protection and human rights,” the Ministry explained.
Eswatini further emphasized that its approach to this issue is consistent with international law, as well as its duty to act in good faith toward diplomatic partners.
“The Kingdom of Eswatini assures all stakeholders that stringent security measures are in place to mitigate any risks, safeguarding our communities while upholding our humanitarian commitments,” the Ministry said.
In response to the South African concerns, government expressed appreciation for the continued dialogue and partnership between the two countries.
“Eswatini deeply values its enduring partnership with the Republic of South Africa and remains committed to transparent communication and peaceful cooperation,” the Ministry concluded.
A Kingdom Built on Peace and Principle
Eswatini’s response reaffirms its identity as a nation that leads with principle, not prejudice. By embracing its ‘No Enemy’ policy, the Kingdom continues to set a powerful example in Southern Africa for how to balance national security with compassion, diplomacy, and dignity.
