Africa-Press – Eswatini. Eswatini is set to make a historic mark as it prepares to send its largest-ever team to the upcoming African Union Sports Council (AUSC) Region 5 Youth Games, set to take place in Windhoek, Namibia, from July 3 to 13, 2025.
A total of 107 young athletes will represent the Kingdom across seven sporting codes: judo, boxing, swimming, athletics, Special Olympics, and men’s and women’s football. This milestone marks the most diverse and expansive team Eswatini has ever fielded at the prestigious youth event.
The AUSC Region 5 Youth Games serve as a platform for young athletes from southern African nations including Angola, Botswana, Eswatini, Namibia, South Africa, and others to showcase their talent, unity, and sportsmanship. The games also align with Africa’s Agenda 2063, which champions youth empowerment, health, and regional integration through sport.
According to Dumsani Ntiwane, Senior Marketing and Communications Officer at the Eswatini Sport and Recreation Council and the delegation’s spokesperson, the games play a crucial role in youth development.
“The Region 5 Youth Games are an initiative of the AUSC that focus on building future champions through structured youth competitions. Participation is not only vital, but also mandatory, with non-compliance leading to fines,” he said.
Eswatini’s presence at the games is expected to inspire a new generation, uplift the spirit of national pride, and boost the country’s reputation on the regional sports stage.
As the countdown to Windhoek begins, the nation’s athletes, coaches, and officials are rallying behind one shared goal: to represent Eswatini with passion, discipline, and determination.
