ESWATINI UNVEILS NEW TOLL FEES FOR VEHICLES AT BORDER POSTS

Africa-Press – Eswatini. Beginning October 1, 2025, motorists entering Eswatini will encounter revised toll fees as government introduces a new fee structure aimed at strengthening road infrastructure funding and aligning with regional best practices.

The announcement, made by the Ministry of Public Works and Transport in collaboration with the Eswatini Revenue Service (ERS), emphasizes that the adjustments fall under Section 4 of the Finance (Amendment) Act, 2025.

A Fair, Structured System

The new toll fees will apply to both foreign-registered and locally registered commercial vehicles, with rates determined by vehicle class and weight.

Motorcycles will pay E80.00 if foreign registered.

Light motor vehicles, with or without a trailer, will pay E150.00 (foreign) and E55.00 (local commercial).

Heavy motor vehicles with two axles (between 3,500kg and 7,500kg) will pay E350.00 (foreign) and E60.00 (local commercial).

Heavy motor vehicles with three axles (above 7,500kg) will pay E400.00 (foreign) and E80.00 (local commercial).

Heavy motor vehicles with four axles (above 3,500kg and above 7,500kg) will pay E450.00 (foreign) and E100.00 (local commercial).

Additionally, for vehicles entering Eswatini through Mhlumeni and Lomahasha border posts, the toll fee is set at an equivalent of USD 100 per truck.

Boosting Road Development

Government has underscored that the revised toll structure is part of broader efforts to maintain and expand the nation’s road networks. By ensuring that road users, especially heavy-duty vehicles, contribute fairly, the initiative will help sustain safe and reliable transport systems that benefit commerce, tourism, and local communities.

“This adjustment is not just about collecting revenue,” a Ministry official explained. “It’s about reinvesting in our road infrastructure, improving trade facilitation, and creating a seamless transport system that meets the growing demands of our economy.”

Supporting Trade and Growth

The move comes at a time when Eswatini is intensifying regional trade ties and positioning itself as a competitive gateway for business in Southern Africa. Improved roads are expected to ease logistics for cross-border transporters, support tourism, and strengthen Eswatini’s role in regional supply chains.

Advisory for Motorists

The Ministry has urged road users and cross-border transport operators to take note of the new fees when planning travel. For more information, the public may contact the Eswatini Revenue Service at 2406 4050 or via WhatsApp at 7606 3092.
