ESWATINI’S BOLD VISION: TRANSFORMATIVE ACTION PLAN FOR 2024-2029

Africa-Press – Eswatini. Government has launched an ambitious Programme of Action (PoA) for 2024-2029, designed to propel the nation towards becoming a developed and prosperous state. Anchored on the theme, “Igniting Wealth and Well-being for the Nation,” the plan envisions exponential economic growth, improved infrastructure, enhanced human capital, and sustainable development. This comprehensive strategy represents a pivotal step in realizing His Majesty King Mswati III’s “Nkwe Mandate,” focusing on inclusive growth, job creation, poverty eradication, and national stability.

Economic Transformation

At the heart of the PoA is a target of 12% economic growth by 2029. Key initiatives include:

Business-Friendly Policies: Establishing one-stop business facilitation centers and reviewing the Special Economic Zones Act to attract Foreign Direct Investment (FDI).

Diversified Sectors: Emphasis on export-oriented industries, innovation hubs, and partnerships between academia and industry to create competitive advantages.

Financial Inclusion: Strengthening access to financial services, launching a sovereign wealth fund, and revitalizing the informal sector to integrate it into the formal economy.

Infrastructure and Technology

The PoA prioritizes enhancing physical and digital infrastructure to support economic and social development.

Energy and Transport: Massive investments in renewable energy infrastructure, strategic oil reserves, road networks, and railway systems.

Education: Building a SADC University of Technology, equipping schools with ICT facilities, and scaling up vocational training.

Health: Constructing a world-class national referral hospital and adopting health systems integration to improve service delivery.

Human Capital Development

The plan acknowledges the importance of education and healthcare in driving economic growth.

Education Overhaul: STEM-focused curricula, professional development for teachers, and expanded scholarship opportunities aim to bridge skills gaps.

Healthcare Reform: A National Health Insurance Fund will provide universal health coverage, complemented by investments in health infrastructure and disease prevention programs.

Sustainability and Food Security

Eswatini’s Green Economy Strategy underscores the nation’s commitment to sustainable development. Climate-smart agriculture, organic farming, and integrated water management systems are central to improving food sovereignty and environmental resilience.

Social Protection and Governance

The government will strengthen social protection programs to safeguard vulnerable populations while enhancing governance and accountability across ministries and agencies.

Budget and Funding

With an estimated budget exceeding SZL 136 billion, the PoA will leverage government resources, private sector investments, and international partnerships to ensure its successful implementation.

A Collaborative Future

Eswatini’s transformative agenda requires a collective effort from all sectors of society. The government, private sector, development partners, and citizens are expected to play critical roles in achieving the nation’s aspirations.

This strategic roadmap positions Eswatini as a model of inclusive growth and innovation, determined to create a future where every citizen enjoys a first-world standard of living. The 2024-2029 PoA reflects a government that means business: “Sitewusebenta la!” – a declaration of intent to work tirelessly for national prosperity.
