Africa-Press – Eswatini. It was flames, flavours, and fundraising as over 10 000 festivalgoers packed Mavuso Trade and Exhibition Centre this past weekend for the 9th edition of the Eswatini Biggest Braai, and the energy was unmatched.
The two-day celebration of food, music, and giving, hosted by Philani Maswati Charity Organisation, wasn’t just about fun. It was about purpose, raising funds and support for Eswatini’s elderly.
The event was officially opened by Minister of Health Mduduzi Matsebula, who represented Her Majesty the Indlovukazi. With a turn of the tongs and the sizzle of meat on the fire, Minister Matsebula signaled the start of the festival.
“This is more than just a celebration of food and music — it is a celebration of compassion, unity, and nation-building,” said Matsebula.
“We are proud to see how this event continues to grow and how it changes lives, especially for our elderly. Her Majesty is deeply encouraged by the spirit of giving that drives this initiative.”
Minister Matsebula was joined by Minister of Labour and Social Security Phila Buthelezi, former Deputy Prime Minister Paul Dlamini, Liqoqo members, and Members of Parliament.
Philani Maswati Chairman Lutfo Dlamini, speaking during a press briefing at Pizza Club Matsapha, revealed that the 2025 edition was the biggest yet, with more demand than space.
“The arena was packed. Some exhibitors had to be turned away. That alone tells you this event has grown, and we thank all our partners and supporters,” he said.
Dlamini proudly announced that main sponsor Robertson Spices, who contributed E500 000 this year, had pledged to support the event for the next three years.
“Robertsons has seen the value in this cause and wants to walk this journey with us. That’s a huge win for the country.”
He also revealed that Embiveni Meats, which contributed E350 000, will continue their sponsorship. Other partners included Pizza Club, Global Village, and Eswatini Mobile.
Dlamini thanked former DPM Paul Dlamini for donating a bag of maize for the elderly and called on more companies and citizens to support the initiative.
“This event is not just a festival, it’s a national movement for good,” he said.
On the entertainment front, Dlamini said performers gave their all, with local artists proving their maturity.
“They’ve come of age. They delivered world-class shows,” he said.
Gospel Sunday was equally a hit, with worshippers lifting the roof in praise as top gospel acts blessed the stage.
As for what’s next?
“We’re going to report back to Her Majesty and prepare something even bigger next year,” said Dlamini.
“The Eswatini Biggest Braai turns 10 in 2026, and it will be unforgettable.”
