ESWATINI’S FIRST BAKERS PICNIC A SWEET SUCCESS AT SOMHLOLO PARK

Africa-Press – Eswatini. The scent of freshly baked treats, laughter, and community spirit filled Somhlolo Park on Saturday, June 28, as over 100 bakers from across Eswatini gathered for the country’s first-ever Bakers Picnic, a landmark celebration of local talent and entrepreneurship that proved to be an overwhelming success.

Organized by Cake Baking Eswatini, the picnic transformed the heart of Manzini into a vibrant hub of creativity, learning, and commerce. Bakers set up colourful gazebos to showcase and sell their cakes, pastries, and breads, while attendees enjoyed live music, decorating demos, competitive challenges, and informal networking.

“This was more than just a picnic, it was a true platform for bakers to shine, sell, learn, and collaborate,” said Chairperson Sibusiso Mashwama. “We’re incredibly grateful for the amazing turnout and the spirit of support from the public and our partners.”

While the Honourable Minister of Commerce, Industry and Trade could not attend in person, the Ministry was ably represented by Promotions Officer Miss Philiswa Dlamini from the SMEs unit, who delivered words of encouragement on his behalf. Her presence underscored the government’s recognition of the growing role of small-scale bakers in Eswatini’s economy.

Key stakeholders also lent their support, including the Manzini Municipality, Eswatini National Youth Council, Eswatini National Council of Arts and Culture, BSA Training Centre, Swaziland Building Society, and UKuphumula Kwemaswati Charity Organisation.

Despite minor challenges such as a sound system delay, which the organizers acknowledged and pledged to improve in future editions, the overall event was a resounding success, filled with learning, laughter, and, of course, delicious food.

Cake Baking Eswatini also hosted competitive baking challenges that celebrated exceptional skill and creativity. Congratulations went to the Top 3 Winning Bakers:

Tengetile Thwala (1st Place)

Phumlile Mlahleki (2nd Place)

Temusa Lukhele (3rd Place)

“These bakers’ creativity and delicious treats truly stood out. Well done!” said Mashwama, congratulating the winners.

Cake Baking Eswatini extended heartfelt thanks to all who attended, participated, sponsored, and helped make the first-ever Bakers Picnic possible.

“Your support means everything to us,” the organization shared in its closing note. “We can’t wait to host you again, bigger, better, and sweeter!”

With its strong turnout, meaningful connections, and public enthusiasm, the Bakers Picnic has set the stage for an even brighter future for Eswatini’s vibrant baking community.
