Africa-Press – Eswatini. His Majesty’s Correctional Services (HMCS), in partnership with the Baphalali Eswatini Red Cross Society, has launched a three-day First Aid training course at Matsapha Correctional College, reinforcing the government’s commitment to saving lives.

The workshop was officially opened November 18,2025 by Commissioner Phindile Sibandze on behalf of Commissioner General LaMakhosini Phindile Dlamini. Senior officials, including Commissioners Cyril Maseko and Ephraem Tfwala, and Assistant Commissioner Takhona Motsa, were also in attendance.

Commissioner Phindile Sibandze expressed her gratitude for the initiative, saying, “We are grateful to Baphalali Eswatini Red Cross Society for prioritizing us as we deal with people on a daily basis. This training will ensure that the next person is safe around you.” She emphasized that the skills acquired would have a direct impact on assisting inmates, fellow officers, and members of the public.

Echoing these sentiments, Commissioner Ephraem Tfwala noted, “The Red Cross plays a pivotal role in everyone’s lives. We hope the skills gained here will have a lasting impact and empower our officers to save lives.”

Nontobeko Dlamini, Public Relations Officer for Baphalali Eswatini Red Cross Society, highlighted the organization’s mandate to equip various groups with First Aid skills. “Everyone should have First Aid skills as it saves lives. This is part of our contribution to government, assisting sectors like Correctional Services, who safeguard inmates,” she said.

The participating officers are undergoing a combination of theoretical and practical training, which will culminate in an examination on the third day. Dlamini further explained the new approach: “Our First Aid programme has improved; we have introduced First Aid Blended Learning, which combines online and practical learning.”

The Initiative is expected to strengthen emergency response capabilities within Correctional Services, ensuring that officers are better prepared to respond to health emergencies in and outside correctional facilities.
