Africa-Press – Eswatini. Tandoori Restaurant has suffered a huge blow after a fire that damaged kitchen equipment worth around E600 000.
The fire burnt almost the entire kitchen of the restaurant. The incident happened on Saturday night, after everyone had left. In an interview with one of the managers, Kabir Humayun, he stated that they learnt of the incident at around 11pm, after they had been alerted by the Swazi Plaza Properties that the shop had caught fire.
Plugs
Humayun said they suspected that the fire started from the plugs due to faulty electric cables. According to the manager, it was the first time they experienced such an incident. He stated that the fire damaged almost everything in the kitchen, including three gas stoves and deep fryers. Humayun stated that they were shocked by the incident as they had left everything safely, as that the day was not busy and the staff left at around 5pm, while the management stayed until 9pm. “At around 11pm, we received a call that the shop was burning,” said Humayun.
Fault
Swazi Plaza Properties Marketing and Promotions Officer Siphiwe Nxumalo said they kept an open fault reporting policy with tenants. Nxumalo stated that at the time leading to the fire, they had not experienced any electric faults. She had been asked if the company had experienced any problems in terms of electricity faults in the past. When questioned further on what they thought might have caused the fire, Nxumalo said as Swazi Plaza, they could not speculate on the cause until investigations had been concluded. “The fire department and insurance investigators are still looking at the evidence and will provide a conclusive report as soon as it is available,” she added. The marketing and promotions officer said Tandoori had not reported any electrical faults at the time leading to the incident.
