FLEMINQ: THE POET WHO GAVE HIS HEART TO THE ART

Africa-Press – Eswatini. Born in Mbabane, poet FleminQ uses his voice, passion, and platform to unify generations through the transformative power of poetry.

Born Thembumenzi Mabuza, known in the creative world as FleminQ, has been making significant waves in Eswatini’s poetry scene. His journey began in 2017 with written word poetry and transitioned into spoken word in 2020. Since then, he has graced numerous stages, including Soul Therapy, War Words, Poetry Rinkiled, and Poetry in the Park.

He attended Mbabane Central High School and later at Limkokwing University of Creative Technology, where he earned an associate degree in Public Relations, FleminQ’s love for the arts took root in theatre. “Through theatre, I met a fellow called poetry, and we’ve been friends since,” he reflects. “Poetry helped me express emotions without feeling weak.”

His style leans towards imaginative storytelling. “I rarely write about my own life. I create scenarios or use others’ stories, transforming them into poetry,” he explains. However, two deeply personal works stand out: “Dear Ma,” which he first performed at Soul Therapy in 2022, and “My Mother’s Justification,” a Christian poem shared online.

Themes of love and darkness dominate his work. “I’m a lover boy and a dreamer, but also an over thinker. My love stories and dark thoughts both need paper,” he admits.

In February 2025, FleminQ launched “Poetry Has A Heart,” an initiative hosted at the Mbabane Theatre Club. The event aimed to bridge the gap between generations in the poetry industry and create a welcoming platform for poets of all backgrounds.

His creative process is flexible, often driven by research, reading, and inspiration. “Some poems come fully formed in my head. Some I don’t even write anymore; I just perform them,” he shares.

FleminQ encourages aspiring poets to take action: “Read, listen, research, and write. Don’t wait for validation. If you have an idea, create, innovate, and execute.”

With heart, imagination, and a passion for connection, FleminQ continues to inspire through every line he shares, solidifying his place in Eswatini’s vibrant poetry landscape.
