From Mahhala to Malkerns: Manzini Walks for Unity

Africa-Press – Eswatini. Over 200 participants took part in the 2025 Manzini Regional Business Walk on Sunday morning, officially launching this year’s Regional Day celebrations with a purposeful march from Mahhala Shopping Complex to Malkerns.

With energy, pride, and purpose, the Manzini Regional Administration Office, joined by the towns of Matsapha, Malkerns, Mankayane, and the City of Manzini, led a symbolic walk under the theme “Manzini, Together Towards Today.”

The business walk served as a prelude to the highly anticipated main day event set for 25 July 2025 at Somhlolo Park, where local enterprise, culture, and creativity will take centre stage.

Manzini Regional Administrator Chief Gija Dlamini applauded the unity displayed during the walk and emphasised the programme’s impact since its inception in 2016.

“This event was initiated by the Regional Development Team and regional Chiefs to empower indigenous entrepreneurs and recognise excellence in community development,” he said.

He encouraged participation in the upcoming exhibitions and highlighted that the programme continues to thrive without a formal budget, thanks to the unwavering support of Tinkhundla centres, local councils, and companies.

“We invite all Emaswati and partners to come and support SMEs by buying locally and building together,” Chief Gija said.

Upon reaching Malkerns, walkers were warmly welcomed by Malkerns Town Council Chairperson Councillor Bongani Mabuza, who praised the event for giving small and emerging businesses visibility.

“Malkerns is honoured to host this celebration of Small, Medium and Micro Enterprises,” he said. “We are committed to youth entrepreneurship and localisation through our Local Economic Development Strategy.”

Mabuza called on corporates to buy local not out of charity, but in recognition of the quality and competitive value of Eswatini-made goods.

“The future of job creation lies in supporting entrepreneurs,” he said. “This walk is symbolic of the daily journey SMMEs take, and as councils, we walk with them.”

The event was more than just a march. After arriving in Malkerns, participants took part in a vibrant aerobics session that brought together fitness and community spirit.

The mood was electric, and the sense of purpose was clear, Manzini is serious about inclusive economic growth.

The business walk also served as a networking platform for local entrepreneurs to exchange ideas, meet officials, and align themselves with key economic drivers across the region.

As preparations for the main event on July 25 intensify, the official MCs, Jumbo Khumalo and Mshikishi, are set to bring unmatched energy to Somhlolo Park, where attendees can expect a day packed with craft exhibitions, music, food, business showcases, fashion, and prizes.
