Africa-Press – Eswatini. Minister of Commerce, Industry, and Trade, Manqoba Khumalo, assured senators that his Ministry is making significant strides in fostering an investor-friendly environment to attract business opportunities and alleviate the nation’s unemployment rate.
Speaking during a Senate session today, Minister Khumalo emphasised that the government’s ongoing efforts are aimed at creating a conducive atmosphere for both local and foreign entrepreneurs seeking to establish businesses in Eswatini. He highlighted that his Ministry’s initiatives, such as the facilitation of company registrations, were designed to ease the process for Emaswati to set up businesses.
Khumalo also drew attention to the Ministry’s commitment to addressing one of the country’s key challenges – unemployment. “Our work is aimed at ensuring Eswatini remains a prime destination for investment, which will ultimately create job opportunities for our people,” he said.
An important part of this strategy includes the development of factory shells, which provide ready-to-use spaces for investors. These factory shells, spread across all regions of Eswatini, are designed to attract businesses by offering them affordable and efficient locations to begin operations.
Senator Lindiwe Ngwenya praised the Ministry’s efforts regarding the factory shells, noting their widespread availability across the country. “This initiative has been vital in attracting investment, particularly in the rural areas, where job opportunities are often limited,” she said.
However, Senator Prince Ngangabani urged the Eswatini Standards Authority (ESWASA) to ensure that all businesses, both local and foreign, adhere to the necessary standards and regulations to maintain the quality of products and services.
Meanwhile, Senator Chief Ngome Ndlangamandla reinforced the importance of continuous support for the Ministry’s initiatives, recognising the practical impact they have on creating employment for Emaswati. “The Ministry is directly contributing to job creation and sustainable economic growth, and it is crucial that we continue to back their efforts,” he said.
The government’s focus on improving business conditions and providing infrastructure to support investment is seen as a vital step in bolstering Eswatini’s economic future.
