Africa-Press – Eswatini. Government continues spending money like nobody’s business, buying expensive cars, going overseas, leaving students to suffer the consequences of selfishness. When allowances are delayed, students are evicted from their rented flats by landlords due to failure to pay rent. Then government, starts making excuses, stating that there are technical failures which are delaying the process of sending money to every student who should be getting the allowances.
Projects
We know that government has limited funds as it has used it on ‘priority’ projects at the expense of securing the youth and students’ future. We also know that its officials’ children are getting the best services at the best universities in South Africa and overseas in terms of education. Thus, government does not find it necessary to prioritise the release of allowances to the poor students studying in our country. It is clear that the unreasonable excuses gives them more time so that they can borrow money from other countries – and plunge the country into more unnecessary debt.
Most students survive only with the peanuts until they get as allowances. If government is failing to make the needs of the people and their interests a first priority, then what is the point of having such a government? Our government has made it clear that it is there to only serve individual needs and government elites, instead of the needs of the people. It is high time for government to serve the interests of the people, as a whole, not a chosen few.
