Africa-Press – Eswatini. Green Lightning netball teams secured a historic double victory in both the SBS men’s and women’s leagues after their male and female sides defeated Royal Flames Netball Club in the 2025/2026 Swaziland Building Society (SBS) Elite Netball League finals held at Mavuso Sports Centre on April 11, 2026.

The male team recorded a commanding 45–25 win in the men’s final, while the female team edged Royal Flames 57–52 in the women’s final, sealing a memorable double triumph that brought the 2026 season to a competitive close across both divisions. The finals were attended by His Majesty’s Correctional Services Commissioner General, LaMakhosini Phindile Dlamini, reflecting the growing prominence of netball in Eswatini’s sporting landscape.

The victories came at the end of a season that resumed in February 2026 after a two-month break, when the SBS Elite Netball League returned with renewed intensity and a series of high-stakes fixtures across the country.

According to the Eswatini National Netball Association (ENNA), the restart period featured crucial matches that shaped the final standings in both the men’s and women’s leagues, including women’s clashes such as ABC Academy against Vixens, and a key encounter where Lightning faced OlympAfrica as teams pushed for stronger positions on the log.

The SBS Elite Netball League, sponsored by Swaziland Building Society, continues to serve as a major platform for developing netball talent in Eswatini, promoting fitness, discipline, and teamwork while attracting strong participation nationwide.

For their achievement, the Green Lightning female team received E7 000, a trophy, and gold medals, while the male team received E5 000, a trophy, and gold medals, marking a combined prize reward for both SBS divisions. Green Lightning’s success was built on consistency and resilience throughout the season, with both teams maintaining strong form from the restart through to the finals and showing strong composure under pressure.

In the men’s final, Green Lightning dominated early proceedings through quick transitions and solid defensive structure, limiting Royal Flames’ scoring opportunities and controlling the pace of the match.

The women’s final produced a tightly contested encounter, with both sides exchanging leads before Green Lightning held their nerve in the closing stages to secure victory.

Speaking after the match, a team representative said unity and preparation were key to their success. “We have worked very hard for this moment, and winning both titles shows the strength, discipline, and commitment within our teams,” said the representative.

Royal Flames Netball Club also earned praise for their strong performance, pushing Green Lightning to deliver high-level displays in both finals and raising the overall standard of competition.

The atmosphere at Mavuso Sports Centre was vibrant, with supporters creating an electric environment that highlighted the role of sport in bringing communities together.

The successful staging of the finals further demonstrated the importance of continued sponsorship and partnerships, with Swaziland Building Society maintaining its support for the development of netball in Eswatini.

The league is expected to continue building on this momentum by nurturing emerging talent and strengthening Eswatini’s competitiveness in regional and international netball.

The 2026 season ultimately reinforced the positive impact of sport in empowering athletes and promoting values of discipline, teamwork, and perseverance across the Kingdom.
