Africa-Press – Eswatini. A powerful sense of pride, unity and tradition filled the air as His Majesty King Mswati III officially commissioned the Hhohho Ingaja, marking a significant moment in the Kingdom’s enduring cultural and royal heritage.

The commissioning ceremony, held at the historic Buhleni Royal Residence on January 1, 2026, reaffirmed the vital role played by regiments in upholding national values, discipline and loyalty to the Crown. His Majesty the King is leading the dancing of the little Incwala at Buhleni these days.

The event drew together members of the Ingaja from the Hhohho region, who assembled in full regalia to receive royal recognition and blessing. Their commissioning symbolises readiness to serve the King and the nation, reflecting centuries-old traditions that continue to bind the Eswatimi people together. The presence of His Majesty underscored the importance of the occasion and highlighted the deep respect accorded to the libutfo system within the Kingdom.

Following the commissioning, the regiment proceeded to Mvembili Royal Kraal, where they camped under the guidance of Prince Msudvuka. The overnight stay allowed the warriors to regroup, strengthen camaraderie and prepare themselves both physically and mentally for the responsibilities ahead. The atmosphere at the royal kraal was one of discipline, respect and unity, as the Ingaja demonstrated the values expected of those entrusted with royal duty.

From Mvembili, the regiment is scheduled to move to Ngabezweni Royal Residence, where they will join other regiments from across the country. There, they will await further royal instructions, standing ready to serve wherever they may be called upon. This is expected to happen over the coming weekend. This gathering of regiments reflects national cohesion and the collective commitment of the Eswatini people to their monarchy and cultural identity.

The commissioning of the Hhohho Ingaja is more than a ceremonial event; it is a celebration of continuity, heritage and service. It highlights the role of young men in preserving customs passed down through generations while contributing to the stability and unity of the nation. Through discipline, respect for leadership and loyalty to the Crown, the regiment embodies the spirit of service that remains central to Eswatini’s identity.

As the Ingaja takes its place among other commissioned regiments, the occasion stands as a reminder of the Kingdom’s strong cultural foundations and the enduring bond between the monarchy and the people. It is a moment of honour for Hhohho and a proud chapter in the ongoing story of national unity and tradition.
