Africa-Press – Eswatini. Municipal authorities in Manzini, Mbabane and Ezulwini have issued stern public warnings ahead of New Year cross-over celebrations, urging residents and businesses to strictly comply with fireworks, noise and waste management regulations to avoid penalties.

The Vibrant City Manzini has released a public notice outlining strict fireworks safety guidelines, stressing that celebrations must not compromise public safety. According to the city, fireworks may only be discharged in designated public areas or on private property with open fields, and must be kept at a safe distance from buildings, vehicles and crowds. Fireworks may only be handled by adults, with children strictly prohibited from using or handling them.

The municipality further announced that fireworks will be lawfully permitted only between 23:30 on December 31, 2025, and 01:30 on January 1, 2026. Any fireworks discharged outside this time frame will be regarded as illegal and may attract penalties.

Manzini also reminded residents of their obligation to maintain cleanliness, warning that all debris, including spent fireworks, must be cleaned up immediately after use. Pet owners have been urged to secure their animals during fireworks displays to prevent distress or injury.

The notice further emphasised that large gatherings involving fireworks require prior police approval, while noise regulations must be respected at all times. Liquor outlets, places of worship and residential areas were reminded to operate strictly within existing laws during the festive period.

Meanwhile, the Ezulwini Municipality reiterated that noise pollution is prohibited within the town, calling on residents and business stakeholders to celebrate responsibly by maintaining safe noise levels and exercising caution during fireworks displays at permitted areas.

In Mbabane, the municipality urged residents to celebrate responsibly and prioritise proper waste management, noting that poor waste disposal poses environmental and health risks during the festive season.

Residents were advised to sort waste as follows:

Dry recyclables: plastic, glass bottles, cans, paper and cardboard.

General waste: non-recyclable items to be placed in black bins or refuse bags for landfill disposal.

Organic waste: food scraps and garden waste to be composted at home or at designated composting sites.

Municipal authorities warned that fireworks, excessive noise and improper waste disposal pose serious risks if not well managed. They said the measures are aimed at ensuring a safe, orderly and enjoyable transition into the New Year, adding that enforcement teams will be on high alert throughout the festive period.

Residents and visitors were urged to comply fully, with authorities cautioning that ignorance of the regulations will not be accepted as an excuse.
