Africa-Press – Eswatini. Jim Carrey was one of the personalities to comment on the controversial slap that Will Smith gave Chris Rock, in the middle of the Oscars ceremony, last Sunday.
Speaking to ‘CBS Mornings’, Carrey, 60, confessed that he felt “without character” for applauding Will, when he won an Oscar, after everything that had happened.
“I got sick. I got sick from the standing ovation. I felt like Hollywood just lacked character, for the most part. I really felt, ‘This is a clear indication that we’re not the cool bunch anymore,'” Carrey defended.
Although Rock said he would not press charges for what had happened, Jim assured that he would not do the same.
“I would have announced this morning that I would sue Will for 200 million dollars, because this video is going to stay forever. It’s going to be ubiquitous. This insult will last a long time”, he argues.
“If you want to yell at the audience, criticize, show displeasure, or say something on Twitter – you don’t have the right to go on stage and hit someone in the face because you said something,” he added.
“(The slap) came out of nowhere, because Will has something inside him that frustrates him. I wish him the best. I have nothing against Will Smith. He’s done great things, but it wasn’t a pretty moment. It overshadowed the moment. everyone’s brilliance… It was a selfish moment”, he adds.
Jada Smith
Will Smith’s wife, Jada Pinkett Smith, broke the silence after the controversial Oscars night, in which the actor slapped Chris Rock, after he made a joke about her illness.
The actress also shared an image on Instagram where the following message can be read: “This is a time of healing and I’m here for it”.
In the joke that gave rise to the controversy and motivated the actor’s aggression, Chris Rock compared Jada Pinkett -Smith – who has no hair, because she suffers from an autoimmune disease -, to Lieutenant O’Neil, ‘GI Jane’, from Ridley’s film Scott.
The actress first spoke about her autoimmune disease, Alopecia areata, in 2018 during her Facebook series Watch Red Table Talk, in which she talked about the day she was in the shower and started losing large chunks of hair. Since then, Jada Pinkett Smith has spoken openly about her illness. In July 2021, she decided to shave her hair.
Alopecia areata is an autoimmune, chronic and recurrent skin disease, usually characterized by localized areas of hair loss or hair loss, or hair loss, without destruction of hair follicles.
The most frequent location is the scalp, but also the beard, and, in the most severe forms, eyelashes and eyebrows can be affected. In even rarer cases, there may be total hair loss (alopecia totalis) or all the hair on the body (alopecia universalis.
As alopecia areata is an autoimmune disease, the immune system responds in an exaggerated and wrong way against an element of the body itself.
The most common stimuli that trigger alopecia are acute stress, infections, nutritional and/or hormonal factors. It is these stimuli that seem to provoke an autoimmune reaction in the normal cycle of hair growth and renewal and, consequently, hair loss.
The natural history of the disease is erratic. In localized forms, the hair usually grows back, sometimes thinner and whiter at first, a process that takes several months. Some patients will have episodes of skinning throughout their lives, with hair growth between episodes and, in some cases, the problem may persist over the years and hair does not grow in the affected areas.
Alopecia areata has no cure or treatment suitable for each case, and it can even be done with topical creams or in solution, oral medication or dermal infiltrations.
