Africa-Press – Eswatini. The Hhohho Regional Football Association (HRFA) has officially secured a landmark sponsorship deal with online sports and gaming brand Diskibet, valued at E250,000.
The partnership was formally announced during a launch ceremony held at Sigwaca House on Wednesday afternoon.
The sponsorship will usher in a new era for regional football, marked by the establishment of the Diskibet Hhohho Super Cup, a tournament aimed at promoting top-tier talent across the Hhohho region. The tournament will feature the top four teams from each of the Hhohho regional leagues, alongside 10 clubs from the Hhohho Super League.
Speaking during the launch, HRFA Chairman Dr Comfort Shongwe said the sponsorship presented a unique opportunity to professionalise and market local clubs. He encouraged all teams to fully participate by registering a minimum of 200 individuals on the Diskibet betting platform — a key qualifying criterion for the tournament.
“This is not just about football, it’s about building a marketing culture within our clubs,” said Shongwe. “We want to see teams grow both on and off the pitch. Diskibet will be travelling across the region to conduct training sessions and assist teams with recruitment. Let us take care of this partnership and ensure it grows.”
He further called on the HRFA Competitions Committee to take full ownership of the initiative and ensure the tournament is well-run and beneficial to all stakeholders. A knockout stage will follow the main competition, he added, and teams have been urged to start preparing accordingly.
Diskibet Head of Marketing and Public Relations Thuthu Mbingo said the company was excited to invest in the development of grassroots football through the E250,000 sponsorship. She noted that the Diskibet Hhohho Super Cup would serve as a platform to showcase regional football talent.
“We are thrilled to launch this partnership with HRFA and look forward to seeing communities come together through sport,” said Mbingo. “As part of our community social responsibility, we will be conducting training sessions and educating teams on how to utilise our platform effectively. This is a long-term commitment to football development.”
She stressed that only teams who meet the minimum requirement of registering 200 people — all above the age of 18 — would be eligible to participate in the tournament.
Representing the Eswatini Football Association, Nkhosinamandla Mavuso extended appreciation to Diskibet for coming on board, noting that such initiatives were vital in improving the standard of football in the country.
Training for the clubs is scheduled to begin this coming Saturday. The tournament will feature teams from six Hhohho zones, including Sigangeni, Lobamba, Mdzimba, and Mbabane. Only regional champions will advance to the competition, which is expected to foster both competitive play and community engagement.
With the official unveiling now complete, the HRFA and Diskibet have jointly called on football stakeholders to rally behind the Diskibet Hhohho Super Cup and make it a resounding success.
