ILLITERACY EXPENSIVE, EMPOWER GIRL-CHILD WITH EDUCATION

Africa-Press – Eswatini. The essence of the belief is that the girl-child will grow up one day to give birth to children who will in turn reproduce younger ones and so on. Hence, education is important in the life of a girl-child as it will help her in a lot of ways. I wrote to express my views on the importance of girl education. The nation is working concertedly to eliminate gender discrimination, inequality, injustices against women and girl-children. It is true that women empowerment can only be achieved through the education of girls. Education is an important aspect of life; it helps in gaining information of the world, and also to build perspective. It also helps in equipping people with professional, social, creative and academic skills.

Contributes

An educated person contributes to the nation’s development more than an uneducated one. Education not only helps a person to contribute to their nation’s development but also in holistic personality development. When practical knowledge of the world is imparted to a child, he/she gains survival skills too. I hope people acknowledge the importance of education, and parents will make efforts to educate both their sons and daughters. And youngsters will make education a priority. All social evils, discrimination, inequality, low literacy among girl-children can only be stopped through the education of girls. Empowering the girl-child with education is the only panacea.

Pregnancies

Education can prevent young girls from getting unwanted pregnancies and in most cases know when a man abuses their right without having to be subjected to ridicule in marriage. It is very hard for a girl to have a say in ‘very important’ issues of society. Even if she tried, she would not be taken seriously as she will be regarded as ‘less educated’, if not labelled uneducated. Although, the cost of education could be challenging, but illiteracy is actually more expensive as education pays off in the long run. At this point, I urge all children to prioritise education.

I also implore parents to take care of their girl-child and make sure she is educated no matter how hard it is, since there are government schools for their children to attend. I, therefore, urge government not to cease sponsoring free education for the sake of those who cannot afford it. The goal of complete advancement is not possible until each and every child becomes not only highly educated but also highly skilled. This task can only be accomplished with through girls’ education and contributions. So, empowering girl-children is the best investment a nation can make.
