Africa-Press – Eswatini. Inmates in Eswatini’s correctional centres have expressed gratitude for the opportunity to rebuild their lives through the Temajele Programme, as the country celebrates the 58th birthday and 40th anniversary of the reign of His Majesty King Mswati III.
The programme gives inmates a platform to share messages of appreciation, reflect on their journeys and highlight the impact of rehabilitation during national celebrations.
One inmate said access to education while in custody had changed their outlook on life.
“I would like to thank His Majesty for allowing us to continue learning even while we are in prison. Education has changed how I see my life and my future,” said the inmate.
The inmate said lessons and guidance from teachers had brought renewed purpose and helped them prepare for a better future.
“We are grateful for the teachers who come here to guide us. Because of them, we are not the same people we were before. We are learning, we are growing,” the inmate said.
Another inmate said the country’s peace and unity gave them hope for a successful return to society.
“We also thank the King for keeping peace and unity in the country. It gives us hope knowing that when we go back, we will find a peaceful nation,” said the inmate.
A different inmate highlighted the value of being included in national cultural activities, saying this strengthened their sense of belonging.
“I would like to thank His Majesty for allowing us to take part in national events like Incwala. It reminds us that we are still part of the country and its culture,” the inmate said.
The inmate added that such opportunities restore dignity and remind them that positive change is possible.
Another inmate also expressed appreciation for the living conditions provided, saying the environment creates room for reflection and personal growth.
“We are thankful for the space we are given to live in. It allows us to reflect, to think, and to change,” said the inmate.
The messages shared through the Temajele Programme reflect hope, personal growth and the importance of second chances.
Through the initiative, His Majesty’s Correctional Services continues to promote rehabilitation, dignity and successful reintegration into society.
