Africa-Press – Eswatini. For Khayalethu Mamba, art is more than just drawing, it’s a world of imagination brought to life through skill, patience, and dedication.
The young Eswatini sketch artist discovered his passion for drawing while in Grade 4 back in 2015, when his teacher asked him to illustrate a classroom chart. What began as a simple school task sparked a lifelong love for sketching.
“I first discovered my passion since I was a young boy in Grade 4,” he recalls. “I was asked by the teacher to draw their diagram for charts, and from there, I realized I enjoyed sketching.”
Mamba describes himself as imaginative and creative, constantly inspired by new portrait ideas. Over time, his artwork has gained recognition, especially on social media, where satisfied clients share his sketches and attract more customers. “People post my work, and that’s how I gain more clients,” he explains.
The self-taught artist remembers his very first sketch, a drawing of a dog. “It wasn’t that amazing because I didn’t know how to shade,” he admits with a laugh. But years of dedication have transformed his early attempts into polished, realistic portraits that reflect his growth.
To perfect his craft, Mamba uses a variety of sketching tools including sandpaper, a precision knife, Tombow Mono Zero eraser, eraser pencil, HB graphite pencils, charcoal pencils, a kneaded eraser, and blending stumps. “In order for my sketching to look amazing, I prefer to have all the right tools,” he says.
Working under his unique style name “Artsworld”, Mamba sketches both from imagination and real life. Each piece takes between four to six hours to complete, depending on its size and complexity. “I always try to do my best and improve from the last art piece,” he shares.
Social media has played a key role in his artistic journey. Through posting his work online, he receives encouragement and constructive feedback from followers, which continues to help him grow.
Offering advice to other young sketch artists, Mamba says, “Keep practicing and watch YouTube videos to improve your talent.”
With passion, perseverance, and a world of imagination, Khayalethu Mamba’s Artsworld is shaping a bright artistic future for this young talent.
