Africa-Press – Eswatini. The Board, Management, and employees of OncAura Wellness Centre, which has been poised for a ground-breaking advancement in cancer treatment in Eswatini set to open its doors in July, have hailed the wise leadership of His Majesty King Mswati III as he celebrates his 57th Birthday and 39 years of reign.
The Founder and Specialist Radiologist, Dr. Mbongeni Dlamini, of the hospital, which boasts modern infrastructure designed for comfort,
innovation, and tranquility, projected to cost E300 million upon completion, has extended warm wishes to His Majesty King Mswati III on his 57th birthday and 39 years of reign.
He said the reign of His Majesty, which has seen the Kingdom enjoy tranquil peace for nearly four decades, reflects a gesture of respect and unity within the nation.
“This milestone not only celebrates the King’s leadership but also highlights the collaborative spirit of institutions like OncAura in contributing to the well-being of Emaswati.
Happy Birthday, Mbangazitha. As OncAura, we would say Long Live Your Majesty, Bayethe Wena Waphakathi,” said Dlamini.
The OncAura Wellness Centre, a pivotal institution in Eswatini’s healthcare landscape, which has been making strides in cancer treatment,
was funded by the Public Service Pension Fund (PSPF). The fund has invested over E200 million in equipment to date and acquired a 45 per cent stake in shareholding in the establishment.

The state-of-the-art facility, whose construction currently stands at 85 per cent from completion, has been set to re-define cancer treatment in the Southern African region by integrating cutting-edge medical therapies with holistic wellness programs, ensuring comprehensive care for patients in body, mind, and spirit.
“With a local center, insurers may have better leverage when negotiating treatment costs and services, leading to more favorable terms and pricing incorporating local economic conditions of households and citizens,” said Lidwala Insurance Managing Director Dr. Thokozani Nkambule.
Establishment of the centre has been envisaged to minimise travel expenses and reduce the financial burden and inconvenience that comes with long-distance care for patients.
Local access to oncology also enhances early detection and treatment, leading to better patient outcomes.
Dr. Mbongeni Dlamini explained that OncAura will be a premier cancer treatment and wellness centre dedicated to treating the disease while healing the person.
“By merging advanced oncology with wellness therapies, it provides a compassionate, comprehensive approach to cancer treatment, ensuring patients thrive beyond their diagnosis,” Dlamini said.
He mentioned that as OncAura’s name reflects its mission, Onc- from oncology- represents specialised expertise in cancer care.
He stated that Aura symbolises commitment to healing the whole person, creating an environment where patients receive not just clinical treatment but also emotional and spiritual support.
“Unlike traditional cancer centres, OncAura will combine advanced medical interventions with wellness therapies, including nutritional support, mindfulness programs, pain management, and rehabilitative care.
This patient-first philosophy ensures that everyone receives personalised treatment plans tailored to their unique needs,” Dlamini explained.
Minister of Health, Mduduzi Matsebula, and Finance Neal Rijkenberg, together with Minister of Public Service Mabulala Maseko, also endorsed the project during a recent tour of the facility ahead of the official opening.

It was during this tour that the founder, who was ecstatic that his dream would finally come to fruition, explained that the first phase, which would be fully operational in July, entails the service provision of chemotherapy, radiotherapy, brachytherapy, and paediatric oncology for children.
He said the paediatric wing was anticipated to take over from Baragwanath Hospital in South Africa, which currently takes care of children from Eswatini.
The facility also features advanced oncology units with the latest diagnostic and treatment technology together with wellness centers for therapy, counselling, and relaxation.
It also has patient-centred spaces designed to promote healing and emotional well-being.
Dlamini stated that the second phase of the centre, expected to be operational between February and March 2026, would be a Neuclar Medicine Facility.
The Nuclear Medicine Centre provides diagnostic and treatment capabilities using several appropriate radiopharmaceuticals for the examination of organs.
For diagnosis, radiopharmaceuticals are injected into the body, travel to the target organ, and emit radiation that can be detected by a scanner.
“Healing is about more than medical intervention—it’s about nurturing the whole person,” said Dr. Victor Litlhakanyane, Chairman at OncAura.
He pointed out that their approach ensures that patients do not just receive treatment but experience recovery and renewal in every aspect of their lives.

With cancer rates rising across Africa, access to specialised, compassionate care remains critical, said Dr. Litlhakanyane.
“OncAura fills a vital gap by offering world-class treatment close to home, reducing the need for patients to travel abroad for care. Its holistic model also addresses the emotional and psychological toll of cancer, setting a new standard for healthcare in the region,” he added.
PSPF Chairman said that as an organisation, they were proud of the investment, which would greatly improve healthcare provision in the kingdom.
He said it was particularly pleasing that the hospital would not only serve patients from Eswatini but also other Southern African Development Community (SADC) countries as well.
“We are confident that the hospital will be rated among the best in SADC,” he said.
