Africa-Press – Eswatini. Community football passion was on full display on Saturday as Kubongeni Celtics were crowned champions of the One-Day Kubongeni/Dukuza E3000 Soccer Tournament, proudly sponsored by Eswatini Positive News.

The thrilling event took place at the Kubongeni High School Sports Ground and drew an energetic crowd of Bulandzeni residents who came out in numbers to support local talent.

The final delivered electrifying football moments as DK FC started the match strongly, confidently exchanging passes through forwards Sizwe “Grinder” Dlamini, Thabiso Mamba and Stre Tsabedze. Despite their early dominance, DK FC could not convert their chances.

After the first quarter hour, Kubongeni Celtics settled into the game, displaying composure, teamwork and attacking intent. Following two missed opportunities, striker Sipho Lubisi broke the deadlock with a powerful strike that sent DK goalkeeper Veli Dlamini the wrong way in the 35th minute. Moments later, Linda Tfusi doubled the lead with a well-taken goal, giving Celtics a comfortable 2–0 advantage at halftime.

Returning with even greater determination in the second stanza, Celtics intensified their momentum. Lubisi continued his outstanding performance, netting his second goal of the match, a display that earned him the Man of the Match accolade. The dominant Celtics side went on to seal a commanding 4–0 victory, claiming the championship title. The champions walked away with E1,100, while runners-up DK FC received E900.

Earlier in the day, the social teams from both sides opened the tournament, where Kubongeni Social Team once again impressed, defeating DK Social Team 4–0 in another exciting fixture.

Speaking during the prize-giving ceremony, Eswatini Positive News Director Mbongeni Ndlela expressed appreciation to all participating teams and applauded the exceptional talent showcased throughout the tournament.

“We are truly inspired by the skill, discipline and sportsmanship demonstrated here today. Eswatini Positive News remains committed to supporting community sports, and we look forward to sponsoring more tournaments that empower young athletes and bring communities together,” he said.

The tournament not only celebrated football excellence, but also strengthened community spirit, unity and youth engagement, reinforcing the power of sport as a positive social force.
