Africa-Press – Eswatini. The Manzini Lions Club, in partnership with the Manzini City Council Environment Department, today led a successful Clean-Up Campaign around the Manzini Central Business District (CBD).
The campaign brought together volunteers who collected waste across the busy city centre using resources donated earlier this week by the Lions Club. The donation included 192 bottles of still water, 150 black waste bags, four boxes of gloves, and two boxes of face masks, ensuring a safe and well-coordinated clean-up.
Speaking during the exercise, Club President Sammy Msibi said September forms part of their Environmental Calendar. “From 15 – 20 September 2025 we are observing our Clean-Up and Recycle Week. Today’s activity reflects our ongoing commitment to creating a cleaner, healthier, and greener Manzini for everyone,” he said.
Clean up campaigns not only improve the appearance of towns and cities but also reduce health hazards linked to uncollected litter. A cleaner environment helps prevent the spread of diseases, promotes safer public spaces, and supports local businesses by making the city more attractive to visitors and investors.
The Lions Club emphasised that such initiatives align with broader sustainability efforts, including the global push to encourage recycling and reduce pollution. By working together, communities can contribute to Eswatini’s environmental goals and ensure that future generations inherit a healthier planet.
The organisation further encouraged community members, businesses, and other stakeholders to support the week long environmental campaign. The Lions Club highlighted that sustainable waste management requires collective effort and consistent participation.
Community led clean up efforts like this one also encourage environmental awareness among residents, fostering a sense of responsibility for keeping public spaces clean. Such initiatives can inspire individuals and businesses to adopt better waste management practices in their daily routines, contributing to a long term culture of cleanliness and sustainability in the city.
Through this initiative, the Manzini Lions Club and its partners aim to set a strong example of community led environmental stewardship in Eswatini.
