Africa-Press – Eswatini. Sweet melodies are set to put Eswatini on the global map as acclaimed classical baritone Lwazi Mzisto Dlamini prepares to perform at the Schubert Lieder concert at The University of Dallas this weekend.

Dlamini will take the stage on May 3rd at 5:30 PM. He announced the upcoming performance on his social media pages, stating, “I’ll be presenting the beautiful melodies of Schubert Lieder at The University of Dallas. As Schubert said, ‘Music is the divine language of the soul.’ If you are around, don’t miss out!!!”

Now based in Dallas, Texas, since September 2024, Dlamini is making significant strides in the classical music scene. He previously showcased his talent at the Standard Bank Luju Food and Lifestyle Festival in 2023, captivating both local and international audiences.

Last month, Dlamini and fellow local baritone Thando Zwane earned the Audience Award at the 42nd International Hans Gabor Belvedere Singing Competition held in Latvia. Dlamini described the competition as highly competitive, noting that it began with 121 singers in the first round, narrowing down to 52 semi-finalists and culminating in nine remarkable finalists.

This year, nine participants received engagements or coaching sessions at prestigious opera houses, including Covent Garden in London, Metropolitan Opera in New York, Deutsche Oper in Berlin, and Dutch National Opera in Amsterdam. The competition featured 51 qualifying rounds worldwide, with approximately 800 singers participating. The finale took place in Jurmala, Latvia, where 121 singers from 39 nations competed for top honours.

Next year, the finals of the International Hans Gabor Belvedere Singing Competition are set to take place in Switzerland at the Stadttheater Bern. Founded in 1982 by Hans Gabor, the former director of the Vienna Chamber Opera, the competition aims to provide young artists with a springboard for an international opera career.

With his upcoming performance, Lwazi Dlamini continues to elevate Eswatini’s presence in the global music scene, sharing his passion and talent with audiences far and wide.
