Africa-Press – Eswatini. United by purpose, the entire Madulini community rolled up their sleeves to fix a damaged road in the eMathezeni area, a part that had become nearly impossible to use during rainy days. This was a fully self funded project, with each homestead contributing money to buy cement, sand, and other materials. With shovels in hand and determination in their hearts, the people made it happen not through aid, but through unity.
This community led initiative involved gathering stones and contributing funds to repair the most slippery and dangerous sections of the road. Though spearheaded by the local youth, the project drew the full support of residents young and old.
Local representative Bucopho Sifiso Simelane confirmed the challenges residents faced, noting that the road had long been a hazard during the rainy season. While support for non gazetted roads is not always guaranteed or immediate, the community chose not to wait, each homestead contributed what they could to start the work. He added that they still plan to seek funding from individuals and organizations who may be able to support the next phase.
The project has not only improved local infrastructure but also strengthened the bond among community members. Young people, elders, and families united around a shared vision to take ownership of their development proving that progress doesn’t always have to wait for outside assistance.
A resident of eMathezeni, Brian Motsa, commended the community’s efforts and celebrated the progress made. “This is a good thing. The work has been successfully led by the youth and supported by the entire community,” he said. “This is just phase one. They plan to seek funding to continue.
This effort is sparking important conversations about self driven development and the power of collective action. It is more than just a road repair, it’s a lesson in unity, resilience, and what can be achieved when a community shares a common goal. Despite limited resources, the people of eMathezeni have reminded the nation that meaningful change often begins with the people, not the promises.
The project has already made a noticeable impact, improving access and mobility in the area. It stands as a powerful example of what can be accomplished through unity, resourcefulness, and community pride. Madulini has spoken and acted. The time truly has come.
