Africa-Press – Eswatini. PIGG’S Peak Black Swallows suffered a major blow when over one million of their votes were declared null and void by the MoMo Cup Management Committee.

This happened after an audit was instituted against the votes ahead of the second edition of the knockout tournament in September. Eyebrows were raised after one of the teams clocked over one million votes within a week, prompting the MC to swiftly conduct the audit.

The National First Division side were leading the voting charts with 1 332 199 votes by 4.25pm on Monday and dropped to 289 776 after the scrutiny by the MoMo Cup Management Committee.

New National First Division side Lozitha Spurs were the other team to lose votes, as about 194 000 were voided, though the implementation saw Lozitha jumping to the summit of the voting charts with 399 625 votes.

The ‘big three’ were not spared from the audit as over 220 000 votes were deducted for Manzini Wanderers, while Mbabane Swallows lost more than 100 000 during the cleaning process. Mbabane Highlanders lost 38 581 dubious votes.

Denver Sundowns are also great sufferers, as they lost over 450 000 votes, which moved ‘Kappa Kappa’ out of the top six bracket to ninth position.

The audit exercise was revealed by the tournament’s Management Committee, led by Premier League of Eswatini Executive member Polycarp Dlamini during a media briefing held at Sigwaca House on Monday.

Due to the anomaly, all MoMo agents and merchants’ transactions have been blocked from earning voting points. Going forward, MTN Fintech Services has undertaken to conduct daily transaction monitoring checks on the voting platform, the same as they do on the MoMo platform to verify votes.
