Africa-Press – Eswatini. Manzini Lions Club has stepped up its support for vulnerable children by donating a fully fenced and ploughed vegetable garden to Makholweni Food Carepoint. The handover took place on Saturday, 16 August 2025, and was marked by a community planting session involving Lions members, children, and volunteers.
Sammy Msibi, Manzini Lions Club President said the initiative is part of the Club’s ongoing commitment to tackling food insecurity among children. “Makholweni Carepoint feeds about 90 children daily. For some, the meal they receive here is the only meal of the day. This garden will help provide fresh vegetables to ensure balanced and nutritious meals,” he said.
The Makholweni Carepoint is one of four centres in Eswatini that receive regular food support from the Lions Club. Through contributions from members and sponsors, the organisation continues to sustain these carepoints, offering both nourishment and hope to children in need.
The new garden is expected to complement existing food supplies, reducing reliance on external donations and fostering sustainability. Children and volunteers eagerly joined in planting seedlings donated by the Club, signalling the start of a project that blends community effort with long term impact.
Msibi further encouraged the public and potential partners to join hands in supporting the initiative. “This is not just about meals, it is about dignity and the future of these children. Together, we can make a real difference,” he emphasised.
