Africa-Press – Eswatini. The Municipal Council of Manzini is making steady progress on a major road upgrade initiative set to enhance mobility, safety, and economic activity within the central business district (CBD).
The project, which gained momentum in April 2026 after the Easter holidays, is part of a broader effort to rehabilitate key roads affected by heavy traffic and seasonal wear. Focus areas include Ngwane Street, Nkoseluhlaza Street, and the Central Distributor Road—critical routes that support daily movement in the city.
As part of the upgrade, Ngwane Street has been temporarily closed from KFC to the traffic lights below the Council offices. This measure prioritizes public transport, ensuring buses and kombis continue operating efficiently while construction is underway. Motorists are being guided to alternative routes such as Nkoseluhlaza Street and Louw Street, helping maintain access to the bus rank.
While some commuters have noted longer travel times during peak hours, the ongoing work signals a forward-looking investment in the city’s infrastructure. The upgrades include road resurfacing, improved drainage systems, and reinforced foundations—enhancements designed to deliver durability and smoother traffic flow for years to come.
Local voices reflect a shared optimism about the long-term benefits. Although some businesses and transport operators are adjusting to temporary changes, many acknowledge the value of improved roads in boosting accessibility, safety, and economic opportunities.
The Council has expressed appreciation for the public’s cooperation, emphasizing that the project is a step toward building a more efficient and resilient urban environment.
With construction progressing, Manzini is positioning itself for a stronger, more connected future—where modern infrastructure supports both daily life and sustained economic growth.
