Lavumisa-born singer Thandokuhle Dlamini, known by her stage name Mathando, is gearing up to release her brand-new single “Emathandweni” on July 25. The 24-year-old Afro-pop artist, who has been steadily building her name in the local music scene over the past three years, says the journey hasn’t been easy but she’s proud of how far she has come.

“Music makes me happy. Even though it’s tough, I encourage myself and take pride in my journey, even when faced with setbacks. It takes strength to keep moving forward,” Mathando shared.

Inspired by the encouragement and sometimes the pressure of friends and family, she has kept faith in her dream of making music that touches people. She recalls memorable performances at city events hosted by MTN, where she was invited to share her talent with larger audiences.

Her upcoming single “Emathandweni” was produced by acclaimed Swazi hitmaker Mr Kangaroo at Swazi Swag Records. Mathando says she specifically chose Mr Kangaroo for his proven ability to craft catchy melodies and produce hit songs. The track dives into the themes of love and happiness that bloom when you truly care for someone.

“I wrote ‘Emathandweni’ to explore the joy and connection you experience when you love someone. It’s inspired by the powerful lyrics and melodies of the Afro-pop genre,” she explained.

The single will be accompanied by an official music video shot by director MayD. Local photographer KB Ndura, based in Matata, is among the actors featured in the visuals. Both the audio and video will go live on July 25 across all major digital platforms.

Mathando says she is committed to improving her craft and urges fans to support her upcoming project. “I put a lot of effort and made sacrifices to make this song. I really plead for love and support from everyone for ‘Emathandweni.’”

To fellow aspiring artists, she offers this advice:

“You need to face challenges with courage and optimism, embracing life’s uncertainties while believing in your inner strength to overcome obstacles and achieve your dreams. Trust your abilities and never give up on your goals.”

Fans can follow Mathando’s journey on social media and stream “Emathandweni” starting July 25.
