MSUNDUZA COMMUNITY EMBRACES CLEAN LIVING AT GO GREEN FUN DAY

Africa-Press – Eswatini. Msunduza community members joined hands in a successful clean-up campaign during the Go Green Fun Day, held on Saturday , an effort aimed at promoting environmental awareness and responsible waste management.

The event was hosted in collaboration with Mbabane East MP Welcome Dlamini, starting at the Corporation Circle and ending at the Msunduza Sports Ground. The clean-up campaign was supported by key partners, including the Eswatini Environment Authority, Swazi Plaza, Pick ‘n Pay, SNG, SUB, and MP Welcome. Their support helped mobilize residents and school children, toward a shared vision, a cleaner and greener Msunduza.

During the event, a representative from the Eswatini Environment Authority delivered a clear message that littering is a crime, and it is every citizen’s responsibility to dispose of waste correctly. Children were reminded to keep their schools clean, and were told not to expect vendors to clean up after them. “The person who creates waste must ensure it is properly deposited,” he said.

Sipho Mkhonta from the Mbabane Municipal Council emphasized the message, calling on residents to maintain the cleanliness achieved during the campaign. “Where we’ve cleaned must remain clean,” he said. Mkhonta also emphasized the value of recycling: “These days, litter is money. Separate your waste and take it to recycling centres and make money while protecting the environment.” Mkhonta pointed out that recycling centres are available near the market and at the industrial site.

Senzo Ndlangamandla of Yibutse, an organisation focused on sanitation, warned that their members, mandated by the municipality, will hold offenders accountable. “We are the guardians of public cleanliness,” he stated. “If we find someone littering, they will be taken to task.”

In support of long-term environmental action, press distributed over 30 indigenous trees to residents. These included Beefwood, which serves as a windbreaker, and Natal Fruit, a tree that produces edible fruit. News Editor Mbono Mdluli, speaking on behalf of the publication, encouraged residents to make daily efforts to protect their environment. “The beautiful work we’ve done today must become our lifestyle. In a few years, these trees will provide shade and beauty to our community,” he said.

The Go Green Fun Day was not just a clean-up exercise, it was a vibrant show of unity, education, and action, reminding everyone in Msunduza that environmental care starts with individual responsibility.
