Africa-Press – Eswatini. Local chef Sivesetfu Bhembe is making waves on the global culinary stage after being named the top student worldwide for the Highfield International Level 4 Award in HACCP for Management.

This award is a remarkable milestone for the chef and a proud moment for Eswatini’s culinary community.Hailing from Hlathikhulu, Bhembe’s journey to culinary excellence is rooted in his love for the art of cooking and dedication to service. “I simply fell in love with the whole exchange of servitude — the chaos, the precision, and the effort it requires,” he shared.

Despite facing personal challenges during his studies, including the loss of a loved one, Bhembe stayed focused and motivated, channelling his hardships into success. “Sometimes you have to keep your head down and stay focused,” he said. “I want to make those who have passed proud.”

His training at 1000 Hills Chef School played a crucial role in shaping his outlook and skills. “The philosophies I learned there changed how I view the culinary industry and my role within it,” Bhembe noted.

More than an individual accolade, Bhembe’s achievement is a beacon of hope for Eswatini’s chefs and food industry, showing that Swazi talent can meet and surpass international standards. “It reflects well on what the Eswatini Chef Association and the entire industry stands for,” he emphasized.

Bhembe also stresses the importance of culture in his cooking: “Food reflects our Swazi way of life — what we believe in and how we interact with the world. I see culture in every dish I make.”

Looking ahead, Bhembe dreams of opening his own culinary school to inspire and nurture future chefs. His advice to young aspiring cooks is clear and heartfelt: “Just do it. Find that one person who believes in you and hold on to that support. Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise.”
