Africa-Press – Eswatini. DENVER Sundowns player Mthokozisi ‘General’ Hlatshwayo is believed to be the real deal and can help the ‘Kappa Boys’ have a competitive campaign in the 2023-24 season.

This is the belief of Sundowns players after Hlatshwayo won the player of the tournament award during the Bible Society Cup played on Saturday.

He is a forceful, strong attacking midfielder with good distribution and an eye for a ‘killer’ pass.

The player says his dream is to play for the national team Sihlangu Semnikati.

Hlatshwayo said this after winning the player of the tournament award during the Bible Society Cup played at Mavuso Sports Centre on Saturday.

“First of all, I am happy to win this award. Our wish was to win this tournament but we lost at the end on penalties, signifying that it was not an easy match.” The player said it was every player’s dream to play for the national team.

“I will continue working hard and I know that one day I will wear the Sihlangu jersey. It is only a matter of time before I realise my dream,” he said.

Hlatshwayo said he was happy to get the award as it would encourage him to put more effort.

“I also want to thank my teammates for helping me win this award.

We played as a team in these two games and we can only improve from this performance,” he said.

He said his main aim was to help his team win one of the knockout tournaments in the new season.

Mbabane Highlanders goalkeeper Khanyakwezwe Shabalala said he was happy to win the goalkeeper of the tournament award.

The former Matsapha united player said the award would push to do better. “I have to be consistent and continue working hard. Nothing is impossible if you work hard. I would like to thank our chairman, the coach, players and the technical bench for always encouraging me,” he said.

Shabalala said they could have easily won the match against Denver Sundowns but they were not clinical in front of goal.

“We created a number of chances in this match but failed to utilise them. We have to go back to the drawing board to rectify our mistakes.” He said he was happy that his team defended the Bible Society Cup title. “We were all out to defend our title and were successful. We are looking forward to winning more trophies in the new season.”

Mpendulo Tfomo, who was man of the match during their match against Denver Sundowns, said he was happy with his performance.

“It was not an easy match but in the end we won. This one is for our chairman who always supports the team.” He said they would continue to work hard.

“We are already looking forward to the start of the new season. The spirit is high in the camp and the new players are settling in well,” he said.
