Africa-Press – Eswatini. The University of Eswatini has received a welcome boost from MTN Eswatini, which has committed E150 375.50 towards strengthening the Mvasi League, support that students, management, and staff say will greatly enrich campus sports and student life.
The sponsorship was officially presented by Acting CEO Jerry J. Soko and received on behalf of the university by Professor Henry Gadaga, Pro Vice Chancellor (Academic), on 5 December 2025.
Professor Gadaga described the sponsorship as a meaningful contribution that speaks to MTN’s commitment to young people and the future of sport at the University of Eswatini.
The three-year partnership will support league setup costs, sporting equipment, semester awards, “Man of the Match” rewards, and trophies and medals for the end-of-season ceremony.
The Mvasi League brings together 23 football teams from the Kwaluseni and Mbabane campuses, involving about 460 student players. Over time, it has grown into one of the most vibrant student activities promoting teamwork, discipline, and a sense of community.
Professor Gadaga said the league does more than entertain; it prepares students for tougher competitions ahead, especially as the University of Eswatini looks toward renewed regional participation within the BOLESWA bloc of Botswana, Lesotho, and Eswatini.
He noted that MTN’s support helps students “dream bigger, train harder, and represent the University of Eswatini confidently.”
The partnership carries shared responsibilities: the University of Eswatini will continue promoting MTN Pulse and supporting youth-focused activities, while MTN maintains its investment in visibility and student engagement.
“We sincerely thank MTN for their trust, their investment, and their belief in the potential of our students,” said Professor Gadaga. “This contribution strengthens the foundation on which future champions are built.”
He also encouraged students to embrace the opportunity, stay united, and show responsibility both on and off the field.
As the new season begins, excitement is high across campus for what promises to be one of the most competitive and memorable editions of the Mvasi League.
