Africa-Press – Eswatini. The Baphalali Eswatini Red Cross Society (BERCS) has brought hope and comfort to families affected by this week’s storm in the Hhohho Region, after swiftly deploying teams to assess damage and deliver emergency relief on Thursday, 4 December 2025.
According to BERCS Public Relations Officer, Nontobeko Dlamini, the organisation moved promptly to support households whose homes and belongings were battered by the heavy rains and strong winds. The response forms part of the organisation’s ongoing commitment to safeguard and uplift vulnerable communities during disasters.
Immediate Relief Reaches Dozens of Families
BERCS teams spent the day conducting assessments and delivering aid in four of the hardest-hit areas: Fontotje, Matfuntini, Ekuthuleni and Nkamazi.
A total of 74 households were reached, with an estimated 20 additional households to be assessed in the coming days.
In total, 243 people benefitted from Thursday’s rapid response efforts.
As part of the emergency assistance, BERCS distributed 75 tarpaulins, which will help families secure temporary shelter while long-term repairs are being planned.
“Most of the affected households urgently need iron sheets,” Dlamini confirmed. “Our assessment teams are collecting complete data, and a full detailed report will be published in due course.”
A Beacon of Hope in Challenging Times
The timely intervention has offered much-needed reassurance to families who lost roofing, household items and structural stability during the storm. Many residents expressed gratitude for the organisation’s presence on the ground, noting that the support has helped restore dignity and safety in the immediate aftermath.
BERCS emphasised that the work carried out on Thursday is only the beginning. The organisation remains committed to ensuring that every affected household receives attention, with follow-up visits and further assistance planned as more information becomes available.
Ongoing Commitment to Community Resilience
Disaster response remains a core pillar of the Baphalali Eswatini Red Cross Society’s mandate. The organisation continues to work closely with communities, partners and stakeholders to strengthen preparedness and improve resilience in the face of extreme weather events.
Dlamini encouraged community members to stay alert during the rainy season and to report emergencies promptly so that support can reach them as quickly as possible.
As BERCS continues its assessments and prepares a comprehensive report, the spirit of solidarity shown in Thursday’s efforts highlights one clear message: when disaster strikes, help is never far away.
