Africa-Press – Eswatini. Captain-fantastic Mxolisi ‘Kudus’ Mkhonto’s late goal was good enough to send the MTN Premier League defending champions, Green Mamba, back to the summit of the log standings.

The Correctional services side is level on points with Madlenya FC on 13 points after they got the better of Ezulwini United at Prince of Wales Ground yesterday.

It was a gloomy cold grey day, which saw the match start at a slow pace, with both teams having a very cautious approach into the match.

With just 20 minutes into the game, Mxolisi Mkhonto could have found an opener for his side after a great quick combination play with Njabulo Magagula, but he missed the target. The Stingers, as Ezulwini United are fondly known, kept their shape, playing the ball around but could not bother Green Mamba’s attacking line.

The last notable action in the opening stanza was an off-target free-kick by Mkhonto after Mthunzi Mkhontfo was brought down at the edge of the box. The first half went to the breather with both teams failing to find the back of the net.

It was same old story in the second stanza, as both teams did not show any sense of urgency, playing the most of the balls in their own halves, trying to play counter attacks.

In search of the more attacking and more reliable options upfront, the visitors brought in Sabelo ‘Sikhali’ Ndzinisa for speedy new signee Bongi Siphepho.

The game had to be stalled in the 55th minute due to bad weather, while match officials tried to assess the situation on the ground. The weather got better 15 minutes later and the referee blew the whistle to resume the match again.

Green Mamba were the better team upon return, showing that they needed the goal at all costs. Ezulwini United should remain grateful to their goalkeeper, Siyabonga Magagula, who denied the visitors scoring opportunities, otherwise the margin could have been different.

The Stingers have themselves to blame for the result, as they missed a huge scoring opportunity from a counter- attack by Thabiso Sithole.

Just a minute later, the Ernest Mavuso- led troops harshly punished them through a beautiful header by Mkhonto who connected well from a cross Colani Dlamini, leaving goalkeeper Siyabonga Magagula well beaten. The late solitary goal was good enough to earn green Mamba all the maximum points and send them to the summit of the log.
