Africa-Press – Eswatini. National Commissioner of Police Vusi Manoma Masango has confirmed that the community member whose tip-off led to the arrest of murder suspect Michael Hlatshwako is the rightful recipient of the reward announced earlier this year.
Speaking at a press conference held on Thursday, 20 November 2025, at the Police Headquarters, the Commissioner applauded the vital role played by the public in supporting law enforcement efforts. He emphasised that the information provided by the resident was instrumental in bringing the months-long manhunt to an end.
Police reported that Hlatshwako was arrested on the morning of 18 November 2025 at around 6:30am. He is suspected of the brutal killing of eight-year-old Tifezile Gwebu of Siguduma, whose mutilated body was found at his homestead in May. The suspect had evaded police since then, prompting the Commissioner to announce a public reward in July to encourage community members to come forward with information.
“The courageous action of this vigilant resident demonstrates the importance of strong community–police cooperation,” Commissioner Masango said. He further expressed gratitude to the public for their continued support and commended the dedicated investigators who have worked tirelessly since Tifezile was first reported missing.
The Commissioner assured the nation that the informant would receive the reward according to organisational procedures, reaffirming the police service’s commitment to transparency and fairness.
Court Appearance in Tifezile Case
In a significant development, the accused, 30-year-old Michael Hlatshwako, appeared before the Shiselweni Magistrates Court on Thursday, 20 November 2025. He faces charges connected to the abduction and murder of eight-year-old Tifezile Gwebu.
The court appearance marks the beginning of the formal judicial process as the case progresses through the justice system. Authorities noted that this next phase is a crucial step towards ensuring accountability for the heinous crime that sent shockwaves throughout the country.
Commissioner Masango urged the public to remain vigilant and continue working closely with the police. He stressed that community involvement remains a cornerstone of effective crime prevention and resolution.
“Together, our shared commitment to safety and justice strengthens the nation,” he said.
