NATCOM WARNS STOKVEL TREASURERS AGAINST FAKE ROBBERY CLAIMS

Africa-Press – Eswatini. As the festive season approaches, National Commissioner of Police (NatCom) Manoma Vusi Masango has issued a stern warning to stokvel treasurers against making false robbery claims, urging Emaswati to use digital platforms and avoid keeping large amounts of cash at home.

In a video aired on the Royal Eswatini Police Service social media page on November 19, 2025, NatCom Masango said police would no longer be deceived by treasurers claiming their funds were stolen when distributing stokvel contributions.

“Several stokvels will be sharing their contributions this month. Many people are withdrawing large sums from banks, while others continue to keep money hidden at home,” Masango said. “We know that money sometimes goes missing from treasurers who then claim they were attacked. They cannot fool us. We will arrest them, and they will spend Christmas in jail.”

He highlighted that December is the peak season for criminal activity, with scams and fraudulent schemes becoming more common. NatCom Masango stressed that anyone participating in such acts would face immediate arrest and prosecution.

The NatCom also cautioned those keeping money in bedrooms or other unsecured places to deposit their savings safely in banks. He said the police were well aware of common tactics used to mislead authorities and had “graduated” in detecting them.

In addition, NatCom Masango linked the rising number of murder cases to illegal dagga farming. He emphasized that police would continue destroying illicit fields, noting that the drug threatens the future of young people.
