ORLANDO PIRATES, MAMELODI SUNDOWNS IN BATTLE FOR CAF CHAMPIONS LEAGUE FINAL SPOT

Africa-Press – Eswatini. South Africa’s giants Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns are set to make history tomorrow in the Confederations of African Football (CAF) Champions League, with $4 million (About E75 million) at stake.

They are both in a battle to reach the finals of the Champions League and make it a South Africas final.

They will be both playing on Friday (April 25, 2025) evening in the semi-finals of the biggest club tournament in Africa. Mamelodi Sundowns is set for a showdown against Egypt’s Aly Ahly in the second leg set for Egypt, kick-off 6pm while Orlando Pirates will get down to action at 8pm against another Egyptian side Pyramids also away from home.

Both teams played a goalless draw in the first leg matches played last week in South Africa.

The winners between the two fixtures will then set finals with the Southern Africa countries dreaming of all South African teams.

The winner of the tournament will take home a lucrative E75 million while the runner up will get half of that. All the semi-finalists being Orlando Pirates, Mamelodi Sundowns, Aly Ahly and Pyramids are guaranteed at least E22 million.

The first final of the competitions will be played on May 24 with the second leg final a week later.

South Africa’s Mamelodi Sundowns reached the semi-finals of the tournament having reached the group stages after eliminating local side Mbabane Swallows. Swallows were eliminated in the second preliminary round of the tournament having eliminated Mozambique’s.in the first preliminary round.
