Africa-Press – Eswatini. The Premier League of Eswatini (PLE) has paid tribute to outgoing MTN Eswatini Chief Executive Officer, Wandile Mtshali, recognising him for his outstanding leadership and lasting impact on the development and professionalisation of football in the country.
In an official statement released on Thursday, the PLE commended Mtshali for strengthening MTN Eswatini’s partnership with the league and for leading with “vision, collaboration, and unwavering commitment” throughout his five-year tenure at the helm of the telecommunications giant.
Mtshali, who recently concluded his term as CEO, is credited with championing key initiatives that helped secure the long-term sustainability of football in Eswatini. His dedication was particularly evident during the COVID-19 pandemic, a period when many corporate sponsors withdrew from sports funding.
“During the most challenging period of the COVID-19 pandemic, when many organisations shifted their focus elsewhere, Mr. Mtshali and MTN Eswatini stood firmly by the football community,” the PLE said. “They ensured that the game thrived even under difficult circumstances.”
Among his most notable achievements is the landmark E22.5 million sponsorship deal for the 2025–2028 seasons — the largest in the league’s history. The PLE praised Mtshali for driving this agreement, saying it reflected his “forward-thinking leadership and inclusive approach,” which also paved the way for co-sponsorships and wider commercial growth in the sport.
“As Mr. Mtshali embarks on a new chapter in his career, the Premier League of Eswatini expresses its heartfelt appreciation for his partnership, leadership, and friendship,” the statement read. “His legacy will remain deeply woven into the story of football’s continued growth and professionalisation in Eswatini.”
The league also extended its best wishes to Mtshali, expressing hope that he will continue to remain close to Eswatini football:
“We eagerly look forward to seeing him at the stadiums, continuing to share in the passion of the beautiful game, even beyond his tenure as MTN Eswatini CEO.”
Mtshali leaves behind a legacy defined by innovation, collaboration, and commitment — qualities that have not only strengthened the Premier League of Eswatini, but also inspired unity and progress in the country’s sporting landscape.
