PM Urges United Fight against Corruption for Progress

Africa-Press – Eswatini. Prime Minister Russell Mmiso Dlamini has called on all Emaswati to unite in the fight against corruption as the country enters 2026, emphasising that national development depends on collective responsibility, discipline and integrity.

Delivering his End-of-Year address on December 30, 2025, at the Private and Cabinet Offices in Mbabane, the Prime Minister said the fight against corruption remains a top priority for Government.

He stressed that corruption continues to undermine national progress and weaken public confidence in institutions. However, he reaffirmed Government’s determination to confront the challenge head-on. “Corruption remains a scourge that has spread its tentacles across many sectors. Government will not relent in fighting it. We call upon all Emaswati to expose and report corruption wherever it exists,” he said.

Promoting Ethical Governance and Workers’ Rights

The Prime Minister also raised concern over reported violations of labour laws, warning that Government would not tolerate the abuse of workers. He emphasised that fair labour practices are central to national stability and economic growth. According to him, Government remains committed to protecting workers’ rights while fostering harmonious industrial relations that encourage investment and productivity.

He further commended both public and private sector employees for maintaining peace and cooperation in the workplace, which continues to enhance investor confidence and strengthen the country’s economic environment.

Strengthening Food Security and Economic Empowerment

On food security, the Prime Minister highlighted notable progress achieved during the year. Bean production increased significantly from 377 metric tonnes to 1 039 metric tonnes, marking a 175 per cent improvement. This achievement reflects Government’s commitment to food sovereignty and agricultural transformation.

He also noted that the Eswatini Agricultural Development Fund had been successfully operationalised, with over E40 million disbursed in soft loans to support local farmers and agribusinesses. In addition, a landmark agreement involving Government, the United States, John Deere and Standard Bank will see the rollout of 250 tractors and modern implements over the next five years to boost agricultural productivity.

The Mpakeni Dam project, now 46 per cent complete, was also highlighted as a critical investment towards long-term water security.

A Call for Mindset Change and National Unity

The Prime Minister emphasised that sustainable development begins with a change in mindset. He urged Emaswati to believe in themselves, support local initiatives and work together towards national progress. “No nation develops through dependency. True development comes from self-belief, unity and hard work,” he said.

Looking Ahead with Optimism

In conclusion, the Prime Minister expressed gratitude to development partners, the private sector and the diplomatic community for their continued support. He reaffirmed Government’s commitment to inclusive growth and national transformation, wishing His Majesty the King, Her Majesty the Queen Mother and all Emaswati a successful Incwala and a prosperous year ahead.
