Police Officers Gain New Skills for Community Safety

Africa-Press – Eswatini. The Royal Eswatini Police Service has taken a significant step toward enhancing national security and community safety by capacitating twenty (20) officers through an intensive Middle Management Skills Development Course.

Drawn from police stations across the country, the officers completed the three-month programme designed to sharpen leadership, strengthen operational decision-making, and reinforce the values of community-oriented policing.

The official closing ceremony was held at the Matsapha Police Academy, where Senior Deputy National Commissioner Emmanuel Sula Dlamini represented the National Commissioner of Police. He applauded the facilitators and trainers for their dedication in shaping a transformative course that directly empowers officers who are central to daily policing operations.

Dlamini emphasized that middle-level commanding officers play a pivotal role in supervising staff, coordinating operations, and upholding the Police Service’s philosophy of community-focused policing. He expressed confidence that the newly trained officers will return to their stations equipped with renewed professionalism and the leadership strength required to positively influence their teams and communities. Their enhanced skills, he noted, will help cultivate safer, more secure environments for all citizens.

Guest of honour Professor Gadaga, Pro Vice Chancellor of the University of Eswatini, highlighted the strong partnership between UNESWA and the Police Service as a model of national collaboration. He described the joint training initiative as a clear demonstration of how academic institutions and security agencies can combine expertise to advance public safety.

Professor Gadaga further commended the twenty officers for their commitment to professional development, noting that their training comes at a critical moment for Eswatini as the nation experiences a rise in cybercrime cases. He expressed optimism that the knowledge and leadership abilities gained through the course will contribute meaningfully to the country’s evolving crime-fighting strategies.

The successful completion of this programme marks another positive stride in strengthening Eswatini’s policing capacity and ensuring that officers on the ground are well-equipped to serve, protect, and support their communities with excellence.
