Africa-Press – Eswatini. The Royal Eswatini Police Service (REPS) has intensified its crackdown on Gender-Based Violence (GBV), particularly sexual offences involving minors, as part of its ongoing efforts to create safer communities.

This follows the arrest of multiple individuals across the country, all charged with serious crimes under the Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence (SODV) Act of 2018.

In one of the most disturbing cases, a 47-year-old man from Ngudzeni was arrested for the alleged rape of a seven-year-old girl. The incident is reported to have occurred in September 2025, and following a thorough investigation, the suspect was apprehended and charged accordingly. He is expected to appear in court soon to face the charges.

In a separate case in the central region, Malkerns Police arrested a 20-year-old suspect from Mashobeni, accused of raping a 15-year-old girl from Khalangilile. According to authorities, the suspect has been formally charged and will also appear before a magistrate to answer to the allegations.

Meanwhile, in the northern Hhohho region, Piggs Peak Police detained an 18-year-old male following accusations of sexually assaulting a 10-year-old girl from Malanda. This offence reportedly took place on September 9, 2025, and law enforcement acted swiftly to bring the suspect into custody.

The REPS, in a public statement, reiterated its zero-tolerance policy towards all forms of sexual violence, particularly those targeting children. “We remain committed to safeguarding children and women from acts of abuse and exploitation. Our officers will continue to ensure that perpetrators face justice,” the statement read.

The police further emphasized the importance of community cooperation in addressing GBV. Citizens are encouraged to report any suspected abuse without fear, as silence only emboldens offenders and perpetuates harm.

Gender-Based Violence remains a serious national concern in Eswatini, affecting countless families and communities. However, through collaborative efforts between law enforcement, civil society, and concerned citizens, there is growing momentum toward curbing these crimes.

The REPS also reminded the public that the protection of children is a collective responsibility, urging all stakeholders to be vigilant and proactive in reporting suspicious behavior or known abusers.

As investigations continue, more arrests are expected, and the police remain firm in their mission to bring all perpetrators to justice and ensure the safety of Eswatini’s most vulnerable.
