Africa-Press – Eswatini. Prime Minister Russell Mmiso Dlamini has formally welcomed the new United States Chargé d’Affaires to Eswatini, Mr Marc Weinstock, describing the Kingdom as the “Palace of Africa.”

The Prime Minister received Mr Weinstock at the Private and Cabinet Offices, where discussions centred on opportunities to further deepen bilateral cooperation. Mr Weinstock succeeds Ms Caitlin Piper, who served as Chargé d’Affaires until recently and was praised for her contribution to strengthening relations between Eswatini and the United States. The Prime Minister extended best wishes for Ms Piper’s future assignments, noting her collaborative spirit with the current administration.

Mr Weinstock, described as bringing “a pleasant personality and vibrant energy” to his new role, assumes office at what the Prime Minister termed “a very interesting era” of evolving US foreign policy, particularly with an emphasis on economic diplomacy.

Areas of Cooperation

During their meeting, both parties explored areas where joint initiatives could bring meaningful impact to citizens of both nations. These include:

Food security, through sustainable agricultural partnerships and trade opportunities.

Border surveillance, to enhance national and regional stability.

Disaster risk management, focusing on resilience against climate-related and humanitarian challenges.

The Prime Minister also welcomed the reinstatement of key programmes previously funded through USAID and PEPFAR, particularly those supporting HIV and AIDS prevention, care, and treatment. He noted that these life-saving interventions remain vital for thousands of Emaswati.

Discussions further touched on issues of migration, including the arrival of third-country migrants from the US, and the importance of coordinated responses between the two governments.

Longstanding Partnership

In his remarks, Prime Minister Dlamini emphasised that the United States remains one of Eswatini’s most valued diplomatic partners, a relationship grounded in mutual trust and respect.

“We remain committed to fostering further cooperation that will benefit both the people of Eswatini and the US,” he said. “To you, Mr Chargé d’Affaires, seize the opportunity because time and chance has happened. Welcome to the Kingdom of Eswatini, the Palace of Africa.”

With Mr Weinstock’s arrival, expectations are high that the Eswatini–US relationship will continue to flourish, with new opportunities for collaboration in governance, trade, health, and security.
