Africa-Press – Eswatini. The last leg of this year’s annual Reed Dance Ceremony ended on a high note as Princess Nkhosiyenzile united all those present in song.
Princess Nkhosiyenzile led thousands of Imbali on the main day of the Shiselweni Reed Dance, held at Mbangweni Royal Residence yesterday. Spectators were following the proceedings of the dance from the stands, which were packed to the brim. The King and Indlovukazi arrived at the arena at 4pm; marking the beginning of dancing in a circular motion (kuhlehla).
Maidens from Ludzidzini led the kuhlehla and the last group to dance in front of Their Majesties was Imbali from His Majesty’s Correctional Services and they were a marvel to watch.
Soon after the kuhlehla, the regiment’s Acting Indvuna Bongiwe Hlatjwako took over and sang ‘munikeni lelihawu lakhe’.
The King along with libutfo went to appreciate the maidens, who were heard screaming as His Majesty passed by them. Some of those in the stands were seen taking pictures of the King as he went past them. It was noted that the Imbali was confused about what to do as some were waving while others were kneeling as the King passed. The King later posed for pictures before proceeding back to his seat. The dancing proceeded until the different princesses danced one after the other, with Princess Nkhosiyenzile being the last to dance. Acting Indvuna Bongiwe then announced that His Majesty the King had given imbali tinkunzi to leave with as they head home.
