Africa-Press – Eswatini. The Minister of Information, Communication and Technology (ICT), Savannah Maziya, has made a bold promise to include more young people in boards and management positions within her ministry.
Maziya said she was committed to ensuring that the voices of young people were heard and that they were given the opportunity to contribute to the country’s development. She said they would be cheating the youth if they did not include them in Boards and management positions whenever possible. Maziya was speaking during her visit to the Eswatini Posts and Telecommunications Corporation (EPTC) yesterday. She started by meeting with the EPTC Board before addressing the media.
According to Maziya, the issue of young people was critical. She stated that as a ministry, it would be foolish of them not to include the youth in all processes. She explained that they sometimes feared the youth and yet she first sat on a Board when she was 24 years old, and that made her who she was today. “I got an opportunity to learn so much about leadership, running an organisation, learn about the different issues and how to deliver on strategies. We will be cheating the youth if we do not include them in the process,” Maziya said. The minister made a commitment that where she would be allowed to appoint different boards; she would certainly apppoint the youth, especially in the areas of ICT. “It makes no sense to ignore young people. We need the technical people in the boards to be youth people, because someone who has done technology in 1916 and someone who has done it today, are two different people,” she said.
