Africa-Press – Eswatini. Parliament today became a hype of activities as it conducted its first full rehearsals for the opening of the Third Session of the 12th Parliament, marking a major milestone in preparations for the national ceremony scheduled for February 20, 2026.
The rehearsals brought together organisers, technical teams and key participants to simulate the official programme and ensure that every detail of the ceremony runs smoothly when His Majesty King Mswati III officially opens Parliament.
According to Parliament Clerk Benedict Xaba, the rehearsals are part of a deliberate effort to strengthen planning and coordination, drawing lessons from previous openings to deliver an even more seamless national event this year.
Strong focus on logistics and technical readiness
Parliament authorities have already completed major logistical arrangements, including the installation of a broadcasting studio and alternative power supply systems. These upgrades are designed to guarantee uninterrupted live coverage and real-time communication during the ceremony.
Xaba emphasised that uninterrupted power is critical to the success of the event, particularly for live broadcasting and nationwide information sharing. Alternative power sources have been secured to ensure the proceedings continue smoothly even in the event of outages.
He noted that the newly established broadcasting studio will play a central role in keeping citizens informed, enabling real-time coverage so emaSwati across the country can follow the opening as it happens.
Rehearsals sharpen coordination and comfort
Preparations also include the pitching of a marquee that will accommodate invited guests and participants. This forms part of a broader plan aimed at ensuring comfort, order and effective coordination on the day of the ceremony.
Today’s rehearsal allowed organisers and participants to test the full programme and identify any gaps that need attention ahead of the final event.
Final rehearsal set before official opening
The final rehearsal is scheduled for January 18, just two days before the official opening. The additional practice will ensure all aspects of the programme run seamlessly and confidently.
With infrastructure, technical systems and coordination efforts already at an advanced stage, today’s rehearsal highlighted Parliament’s commitment to delivering a well-organised and inclusive national event that will be followed by citizens across the country.
