Reps Celebrate 118 Years with Parade and Police Day

Africa-Press – Eswatini. The Royal Eswatini Police Service (REPS) is gearing up for a historic celebration as it commemorates 118 years of dedicated service to the nation on Friday, 15 August 2025, at the Matsapha Police Academy.

This year’s Police Day will not only reflect on the police service’s rich legacy since its founding in 1907, but will also serve as a pivotal moment to usher in a new generation of officers.

The ceremony will be marked by the official passing out of police recruits, who are set to take the oath of office and begin their journey in service to the people of Eswatini.

Speaking ahead of the event, REPS officials said the day would highlight both tradition and transformation.

“This is more than just a celebration, it is a reaffirmation of our commitment to upholding the rule of law, strengthening community safety, and building public trust,” one senior officer said.

Programme highlights for the 2025 Police Day include:

Presentation of Police Medals to distinguished officers in recognition of exemplary service;

The Oath of Office ceremony for newly-trained recruits who have successfully completed their training;

A precision drill and tactical showcase by the elite Operational Support Services Unit (OSSU);

A stirring performance by the Royal Brass Band, whose music will add rhythm to the day’s reflection and pride;

A collective moment of silence and reflection, honouring both the past and the enduring sacrifice of officers who have served under the REPS banner.

The public is invited to attend the festivities in Matsapha, where they can witness firsthand the passion, discipline, and unity that define the Royal Eswatini Police Service.

For those unable to attend, the event will be livestreamed on the official REPS Facebook page, ensuring that all Emaswati can be part of this national moment of pride.

As REPS continues to grow and respond to the dynamic needs of society, the introduction of fresh officers into the system is expected to bolster visibility, improve public service delivery, and deepen engagement between law enforcement and communities.

“Police Day is not only a look back, it’s a look forward,” noted a senior police spokesperson. “It is a call to continue the work of building a safer Eswatini, one community at a time.”
