SNAT Accuses Tucoswa'S Gina of Betraying Workers

Africa-Press – Eswatini. Lot Vilakati, the Secretary General of the Swaziland National Association of Teachers(SNAT) has accused Mduduzi Gina of selling the workers to the Tinkhundla undemocratic regime.

This comes after Gina, the Secretary General of the Trade Union Congress of Swaziland(TUCOSWA) was praised by Labour and Social Security Minister Phila Buthelezi during the Eswatini National Provident Fund(ENPF) 50th Anniversary at the Mavuso Trade Centre-Manzini on Friday afternoon.

The Labour and Social Security Minister went on to state that, Gina, the ENPF Board Chairperson, played a significant role in ensuring that, “eSwatini is removed from the Special Paragraph” or list of countries violating workers rights.

“We are asking ourselves how can Gina assist Tinkhundla in removing the country from the Special Paragraph when our President Mbongwa Dlamini is still at home, Government refusing to reinstate him?. Sticks Nkambule, the Secretary General of the Swaziland Transport, Communication and Allied Workers Union (SWATCAWU) is still in exile but the very same federation that we trusted with raising our issues at ILO helped the regime in removing the country from the Special Paragraph. Now he is being praised by the regime and portrayed as a person who loves the country, all of us love this country, we don’t have another country, this is our country but we can’t compromise the truth just to be praised by Tinkhundla. We are yet to propose an urgent TUCOSWA meeting so that, we can demand answers regarding the Labour Minister’s statement. You need to understand that, if the Minister was not telling the truth, Gina was supposed to correct him in his speech but, he did not do that.”, said the SNAT Secretary General.

SNAT is the largest union contributing over thirty-thousand Rands(R30,000.00) subscriptions monthly to TUCOSWA but, the federation has been quiet amid persecution of teachers union President Mbongwa Dlamini and other social challenges affecting the country including workers.

The social challenges and labour related challenges include shortage of drugs in public hospitals, victimization of trade union leaders, increase of electricity tariffs and low salaries for workers in the construction, hospitality, security, textile and other industries.
