Africa-Press – Eswatini. The long standing diplomatic partnership between the Kingdom of Eswatini and the Republic of China (Taiwan) continues to deliver real economic benefits, with 21 Taiwanese companies already operating in Eswatini. This was revealed on today, 30 July 2025, during the Eswatini Economic Investment Seminar held at the Royal Villas Hotel in Ezulwini,

These businesses, which are active in sectors such as textiles and garments, carton manufacturing and plastics, have invested over 100 million US dollars and created approximately 13 000 jobs for emaSwati.

Speaking at the Eswatini Economic Investment Seminar hosted at Royal Villas, Ambassador of the Republic of China (Taiwan), His Excellency Jeremy Liang, applauded the strong cooperation between the two nations. He described Eswatini as a strategic gateway for Taiwanese investors seeking to explore the African market.

“Eswatini offers a favourable investment environment. Our businesses are already here, working side by side with emaSwati, creating employment and strengthening the local manufacturing sector,” said the Ambassador.

The seminar was attended by a high-level Taiwanese business delegation led by President of the Importers and Exporters Association of Taipei, Ms. May Liao, and Director General Chiang Zhen-Wei. The event was jointly organised by the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Trade and the Eswatini Investment Promotion Authority (EIPA).

In his remarks, Ambassador Liang highlighted key projects in the pipeline, including the upcoming Taiwan Industrial Park, expected to accelerate industrial development, skills transfer and job creation for youth. He affirmed the Embassy’s commitment to supporting bilateral economic initiatives and turning policy into results that uplift the people of Eswatini.

“These efforts are not just about trade. They’re about empowering communities, expanding opportunities, and investing in Eswatini’s future,” he said.

He further noted that Eswatini enjoys a competitive advantage in the global market due to its preferential trade access, including a 10% base tariff rate under a new reciprocal policy with the United States.

Since taking office in 2024, Taiwan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hon. Lin, has championed closer economic cooperation with diplomatic allies. During his visit to Eswatini in April 2025, he reached several major agreements with His Majesty King Mswati III, including projects on labour and vocational training, 5G infrastructure, and energy development.

Ambassador Liang concluded with a message of mutual strength and optimism: “Taiwan can help, Eswatini can lead!”

Taiwanese businesses have already invested over 100 million US dollars in Eswatini, establishing 21 companies that have created around 13 000 jobs. With strong diplomatic ties and new initiatives such as the Taiwan Industrial Park underway, Eswatini is positioning itself as a key investment hub for Taiwanese businesses expanding into Africa.
